(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding residents to be wary of scams after the report of a successful scam from a resident in the Municipality of Kincardine. An unsolicited phone call was received to report a problem with the computer and the “repairs” cost $815.
The South Bruce OPP is asking all residents to be cautious of unsolicited calls, letters, emails, strangers at the door. Tech savvy scammers can create very convincing scams and your best defence is to verify before you ever consider sending money or sharing personal information.
Fraud is a multi-million dollar enterprise that will only stop when the cons stop making money. Anyone interested in more information on fraud can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501 or check on line at http://www.antifraudcentre.ca/.
The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
