(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 59 year old driver from Thamesville is facing an Over 80 charge following a traffic stop on July 4, 2015. At approximately 3:40 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Toyota Rav4 that was travelling southbound on Bluewater Highway at a high rate of speed. The officer measured the speed of the vehicle and determined it was in excess of the 80 km/h speed limit.
Upon stopping the vehicle and while speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 59 year old Thomas JAMES from Thamesville has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on August 10, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
