Good Samaritan Helps Nab Fleeing Criminal

(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On July 12, 2015 at approximately 10:25 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a 2009 Hyundai for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) violation on Eliza Street in Arthur, Wellington NorthTownship. As police were speaking with the driver, they immediately recognized the male passenger seated in the front seat from previous criminal investigations.

Officers returned to the police vehicle to conduct a query of the occupants which revealed the passenger was wanted by Wellington County OPP on several outstanding Criminal Code and Provincial Offences Act Warrants. As officer re-approached the vehicle the male fled on foot from the passenger seat. A foot pursuit ensued until he was apprehended by the officer and a passing citizen.

Police also learned that the male was bound by a Recognizance of Bail to reside at a specified address which he was not.

Police searched the male’s property incident to arrest and located a small quantity of methamphetamine.

37-year-old Jason MCINTOSH of Brampton has been charged with Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and Possession of Schedule 1 Substance – Methamphetamine. He is scheduled to appear in Bail Court to answer to his charges.
