(MUNICIPALITY OF SOUTH HURON, ON) – On Sunday August 02, 2015, shortly before 10 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers along with personnel from South Huron Fire Department and Huron County EMS responded to a serious two vehicle crash at the intersection of London Road (Hwy 4) and Crediton Rd.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a Kawasaki motorcycle with two occupants was travelling south bound on London Road approaching the intersection of Crediton Rd. A Dodge pickup truck towing a large cargo trailer was east bound on Crediton Rd. The pickup truck and trailer proceeded to make a left turn onto London Rd., directly in the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the truck and trailer and became wedged between them.
The 62-year-old male operator of the motorcycle, Don HORWOOD from London was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 59-year-old female passenger of the motorcycle, Donna HORWOOD of London sustained major injuries. She was transported to a local hospital and has since been transported to a London hospital. The male driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.
The driver of the pickup truck, 57-year-old Brian STACK of Wingham has been charged with “fail to yield to traffic on through highway”, and “driver fail to surrender licence”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. He is to appear at Goderich Court on September 15, 2015, to answer to these charges.
The Huron County OPP and members of the OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI) are currently investigating this collision.
London Road (Highway 4) is expected to remain closed between Kirkton Road and Whalen Line until approximately 6 a.m., Monday August 03, 2015, as police continue to investigate.
