(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Tuesday August 18, 2015, around 3:45 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a serious two vehicle collision involving a car and a delivery truck.
Initial investigation revealed that a Nissan sedan was travelling east bound on Hwy 7 east of James St. South when it crossed over into the west bound lane. A Hino delivery truck was travelling west bound in the west bound lane on Hwy 7. The driver of the Hino truck driver observed the Nissan cross onto his lane and attempted to move towards the north shoulder. The Nissan struck the driver’s side rear wheels of the truck.
Roads were wet at the time of the collision.
The female driver of the Nissan was extricated from her vehicle by members of the St.Marys Fire Department, after which she was transported by air ambulance from the scene to a London hospital with major injuries. The truck driver did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision.
Highway 7 between James St. South (Perth Road 120A), and Perth Road 118 remains closed to traffic with barricades in place.
The OPP Western Region Technical Traffic Investigation Unit was called to the scene and is continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision.
Motorists are urged to find alternate routes around the closed highway. The highway is expected to remain closed until the early hours of Wednesday August 19, 2015.
