(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Wednesday August 19, 2015, shortly after 9 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call of a stolen Chevrolet Malibu from a farm property along Line 15 north of St.Marys.
Investigation revealed that the car had been left unattended, unlocked, with the keys inside. Sometime between 4 and 9 p.m., on August 19th person(s) entered onto the property and drove the vehicle away.
An immediate search for the vehicle was conducted by the Perth County OPP, while it was entered as stolen on the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database.
Shortly after 12:15 a.m. on Thursday August 20, 2015 the vehicle was located near Chatham where a suspect apprehension pursuit was initiated by a local police service after the vehicle failed to stop for police. The vehicle drove into a cornfield near Ridgetown where it was left abandoned and extensively damaged. A female was apprehended near the scene. Investigation is continuing.
The Perth County OPP STRONGLY urges vehicle owners to LOCK their vehicles and pocket the keys. Criminals know that rural residents tend to leave keys in unlocked vehicles. Don’t become a victim and discourage these crimes of opportunity. Stolen vehicles are often used for other criminal activities such as thefts, break-ins and robberies.
