Suspended Drunk Driver Flips Vehicle On Airport Line

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A Bluewater resident should consider himself lucky after he managed to escape injuries following a single motor vehicle crash. Shortly before 8:00 p.m. on August 28, 2015 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a call reporting a single motor vehicle crash located on Airport Line between Short Horn Road and Vanastra Road.

Huron OPP and Huron County EMS arrived on scene to find a GMC Jimmy flipped over in the ditch and the driver standing outside of the vehicle. Upon speaking with the male driver police determined the male was displaying several signs that he was impaired by alcohol. As a result he was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and taken into custody. He was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests where he provided two samples of his breath to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician; Both samples registered over the legal limit.

Further investigation revealed the driver had been driving with a suspended driver’s licence. As a result, 61-year-old Joseph POIRIER from Bluewater has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Drive While Under Suspension. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on October 5, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his GMC Jimmy has been impounded for seven days.
