Drunk Driver Attempts To Avoid Police In Harriston

(MINTO TOWNSHIP, ON) – On October 4, 2015 at approximately 1:03 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to stop a 2005 Chrysler 300 on Queen Street South in Harriston, Minto Township to check on driver sobriety however, the driver failed to stop until physically blocked in by police.

While speaking with the driver police detected the strong odour of alcohol on his breath and noted other signs of impairment.

A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local Operation Centre for further testing.

The driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

39-year-old Martin HOLBORN of Harriston has been charged with Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and Fail to Stop for Police contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on November 17, 2015 to answer to the charges.
