The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 127 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Ten people were arrested.
Update: Theft in Blenheim CK15019127
The Chatham-Kent police would like to thank the public for their assistance. Through the use of social media, Crime Stoppers was flooded with tips that helped police identify the man responsible for the theft of Robitussin DM capsules from Shopper’s Drug Mart.
Yesterday morning, the man turned himself into police. Benjamin Pearson, 28 years, of Ross Lane in Erieau was charged with theft under $5000. Through investigation, he was linked to two other shoplifting complaints at the same location. He was charged with an additional two counts of theft under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of July 22, 2015.
Man Charged with Drug and Weapon Offences CK15019336
Around 8:30 p.m. last night, the man became involved in an argument with someone he had been partying with for the day. He left the residence in Chatham on foot with open alcohol. Upon arriving home, he damaged the apartment building door and smashed a beer bottle in the lobby area. He then began to trash his own apartment. Total damage was estimated at $1200. Police responded as he began arguing with his wife. As police entered the apartment, the man grabbed a silver knife that was on the kitchen counter. The man was ordered to drop the knife to which he placed it in his back pocket. The man was taken into custody without incident. Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of marijuana.
The 26-year-old Chatham man has been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, drug possession and two counts of mischief under $5000. He has been held pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Obstruct Police CK15019361
Just before 2:00 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed a suspicious vehicle on Merlin Road so he initiated a traffic stop. The female driver identified herself with valid photo identification. The male passenger verbally identified himself. The officer suspected the man was falsely identifying himself and through investigation, confirmed that he was using his brother’s name and date of birth. The man was taken into custody. The officer further learned that the man was currently bound by several release conditions to which he was breaching.
The 38-year-old Wheatley man has been charged with obstruct police and three counts of failing to comply. He has been held pending a bail hearing.
Two Men Charged with Being Intoxicated in a Public Place CK15019360
Around 1:45 a.m. this morning, officers located two intoxicated men on King Street in Chatham. The men were taken into custody for their own safety as they were unable to care for themselves.
The 52-year-old man and 33-year-old man, both from Chatham were charged with being intoxicated in a public place.
