Chatham-Kent Police Daily News Release – July 24, 2015

Man Charged with Impaired Driving CK15022020

Last night around 9:00 p.m. an officer on general patrol was stopped on St. George Street near Park Street in Chatham when he observed the man narrowly miss hitting the cruiser as he made a turn onto St. George Street and accelerate away. The officer turned around and initiated a traffic stop. Through investigation, the officer believed the man was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was taken into custody. The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests. His vehicle was towed from the roadway.

Bradley Dinning, 38 years, of Hillcrest Avenue in Chatham has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit. He has been released pending a future court date of August 7, 2015.

Man Issued a Three Day Licence Suspension CK15022052

Around 2:30 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed a man driving his vehicle eastbound on King Street onto Fifth Street in Chatham. The vehicle had a rear temporary permit sticker so the officer initiated a traffic stop to further investigate. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer believed he was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was taken into custody. The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests. His vehicle was towed from the roadway.

The 24-year-old Chatham man was released with a three day license suspension. He was also issued three tickets for various Highway Traffic Act offences.

Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Initiative

Yesterday, officers from the Chatham-Kent Police Services Traffic Unit and Ministry of Transportation’s Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit participated in a Joint Forces Operation, conducting safety inspections on commercial motor vehicles that were operating throughout the Chatham area.

Officers inspected a total of 19 commercial vehicles, their loads and the driver’s qualifications and documentation. 12 vehicles were taken out of service for having serious safety infractions. A total of 23 charges were laid.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all commercial motor vehicle operators that safety inspections will continue to be conducted on a regular basis in an on-going effort to keep our Chatham-Kent roadways safe for all road users.

Stolen Vehicle CK15021938

Sometime early Thursday morning, unknown suspect(s) stole a black 1996 GMC Jimmy 4×4 from a residence on Albert Street in Wallaceburg. The vehicle was last seen with Ontario licence plates BLBT 426.

Fraud Warning

Yesterday, the Chatham-Kent police received four separate calls from citizens reporting suspicious telephone calls from people purporting to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Each person was told they owed the government money and were requested to provide personal information.
