Occurrence Type: Child Abandonment Leads To Drug Charges

On Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 8:22 p.m., police received a call to attend a residence on Fox Run as a result of a 3 year-old boy that had been left unattended inside a vehicle, which had been parked in the driveway. The child had been screaming and crying for his father.
Upon arrival a male was observed to be passed out on the kitchen floor. Police quickly attended to the male and rendered medical assistance. Paramedics arrived and transported the male to Royal Victoria Regional Health Care Center.
Further investigation revealed that the male had overdosed on oxycodone and had also been in possession of a small quantity of marijuana.
The 3 year-old boy had been found to be in good health and was turned over to family. The 26 year-old Barrie male was later released from the hospital.
He has been charged with child abandonment and possession of a controlled substance. He was released on a promise to appear and is to appear in a Barrie court September.
