In 2015, members of the Waterloo Regional Police General Investigations Branch Crime Management Team began an investigation into the unauthorized possession of firearms by a male suspect in the city of Kitchener. Based on this investigation, on August 21st 2015, Waterloo Regional Police executed a criminal code search warrant for a residence located in the area of Connaught St, and 9th Ave, Kitchener. Members of the General Investigative Branch Crime Management Team searched the residence and discovered a variety of items including; a large quantity of marihuana, a firearm, ammunition, and a small home-made explosive device. Due to the possible danger to the public, Waterloo Regional Police evacuated surrounding residences, and engaged the Explosive Disposal Unit, who disabled the device. As a result of the investigation, a male and female were arrested without incident, and charged with a variety of weapons and firearm related offences. Due to the large quantity of items and drugs seized, this investigation is continuing.
