September 8, 2015 was the first day of school and with that the first day of the “Give the Kids a Brake” initiative. This initiative is meant to bring focused enforcement into the various school zones in Guelph. On September 8, enforcement was in the Grange Hill East neighbourhood in the morning and in the St. Georges neighbourhood in the afternoon. A total of 49 Highway Traffic Act charges were issued, 25 of which were for speeding. Other charges were for disobey stop sign, disobey sign and various permit/licence type offences. Police will continue to have increased enforcement in school zones so slow down, be aware of your surroundings and give the kids a break.
Break and enter update
On July 22, 2015, a break and enter and theft of approximately $40,000 occurred at the Stag Shop and at Money Mart, located on Wellington Street East.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, David Alejandro Dissi-Lanten, 40 years of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of break and enter to commit theft and two counts of mischief to property. He appeared in court on September 8, 2015.

Public assistance requested
On September 7, 2015 at 4:45 p.m., the Guelph Police received a complaint about dangerous and erratic driving on Highway 6 between Fergus and Guelph. Police are looking for any information involving two sport coupe type vehicles, red and white in colour that were driving unsafely.

Break and enter
On September 8, 2015 at 9:35 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a business on Woodlawn Road East to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) broke into a locked compound in the rear of the business and stole scrap metal sometime overnight.

Shoplifter arrested
On September 8, 2015 at 10:10 a.m., the Guelph Police were called to the L.C.B.O. on Wellington Street after a male stole a bottle and fled from the store. Police located the male shortly after on Gordon Street. The male attempted to flee from police and after a brief struggle he was arrested.
A 25 year-old Guelph male was charged with theft under $5,000, assault with intent to resist, and two counts of breach probation.
Later in the day, the male was being prepared to be transported to Maplehurst Correctional Centre when he struck an officer. The officer was not injured.
The male has been further charged with assault peace officer and two counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on September 9, 2015.
Shoplifter arrested
On September 8, 2015 at 6:05 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Walmart after a male had left the store with stolen property. Police located the male a short distance away and after a brief struggle the male was arrested.
A 28-year-old Guelph male has been charged with theft under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on September 9, 2015.
