Man and Woman Charged Following Traffic Stop CK15027381

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man and woman following a traffic stop early this morning in Chatham.

Around 5:30 p.m. last night, a woman contacted police to report that her license plates had been stolen from her vehicle while it was parked in a parking lot on Park Avenue West in Chatham.

At 2:40 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed a Ford pick-up truck travelling on Lacroix Street with the stolen license plates. A traffic stop was initiated and the male driver and female passenger were both taken into custody. The pair were also found to be in possession of a backpack containing marijuana with an approximate street value of $2000, small bag of crystal methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia. The license plates were seized and the vehicle was towed from the roadway.

The 26-year-old man and 18-year-old woman, both from Chatham have been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, drug possession and possession for the purposes of trafficking. They have both been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Uttering Threats CK15027305

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a domestic disturbance in Ridgetown.

Yesterday morning, the man and woman began arguing while at their home. The man threatened the woman and ordered her to leave the residence. The woman fled and ran to a nearby business for help.

The 29-year-old Ridgetown man has been charged with uttering threats. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Initiative

Yesterday, officers from the Chatham-Kent Police Services Traffic Unit and Ministry of Transportation’s Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit participated in a Joint Forces Operation, conducting safety inspections on commercial motor vehicles that were operating throughout the Chatham area. Officers inspected a total of 19 commercial vehicles, their loads and the driver’s qualifications and documentation. 10 vehicles were taken out of service for having serious safety infractions and 2 sets of licences plates were seized. A total of 30 charges were laid.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all commercial motor vehicle operators that safety inspections will continue to be conducted on a regular basis in an on-going effort to keep our Chatham-Kent roadways safe for all road users.

Found Keys in Blenheim

Last week, two separate sets of keys were located in the Blenheim area. The first set of building and car keys were found on Chatham Street South. The second set contained two vehicle remotes with house keys and were found on Front Line.

Chatham-Kent Peace Officers Memorial Service

On Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. the First Baptist Church on King Street East in Chatham will be hosting a Peace Officers Memorial Service to honour those who have died in the line of duty.

We will be remembering their lives, their service and their sacrifice. All are welcome to attend.
