Guelph Police Daily News Release – Sept 23, 2015

On September 22, 2015 at 12:27 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a collision in the private drive leading to the parking lot located at College Heights School. A single vehicle was involved as it had left the road and struck and mounted a pole. No injuries were reported.

Break and enter

On September 22, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Dumbarton Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime during the day and stole a laptop and watch.

Driver impaired by drug – arrested

On September 23, 2015 at 2:06 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle after observing it driving erratically in the area of Wellington Street and the Hanlon Expressway. Police spoke with the male driver and he was arrested for impaired driving. Further investigation determined that he was impaired by drugs, in possession of a small quantity of marihuana and in possession of a prohibited type of knife.

Justin Cameron, 32 years of Lindsay has been charged with impaired driving by drug, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prohibited weapon. He will appear in court on November 3, 2015.

Single car collision

On September 22, 2015 at 5:55 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Waterloo Avenue and Hearn Avenue for a collision. It is alleged that a 34-year-old female (novice driver) was operating a 2016 Ford Escape eastbound on Waterloo Avenue. As she turned left to travel northbound on Hearn, she failed to negotiate the turn and struck the east curb. The motor vehicle travelled northbound for a short distance before striking a hydro pole on the west side of Hearn Avenue.

The motor vehicle sustained major damage as a result of the collision.

The driver and her 35-year-old male passenger were transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver is charged with careless driving and will appear in court in late October.

Theft from cars

On September 22, 2015 the Guelph Police received three reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Barton Street, June Avenue and Scottsdale Drive.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
