Our survey results are in regarding acceptance of Refugees, and the Helpers greatly outnumber the haters! There is zero doubt there is racism in our Community, an unfortunate result of a failed education system of years past. Fortunately we have significantly more open minded people than we have racists.
60% would donate any excess resources such as food, clothing, furniture etc.
55% said ethnicity is as irrelevant as eye color.
48% said they would offer food and shelter to ANYONE in real need.
45% would speak up if they witness racism in public.
41% confront friends and family when they make racial slurs.
33% feel it is never appropriate to question someone about their ethnicity.
23% would learn a few phrases to make Refugees more welcome.
18% would offer a FREE shelter for Refugee families.
Only 14% stated they would boycott any business that supported Refugees, would sell their homes and leave Wingham, would be less likely to visit/move/shop here, and don’t think Canada should have been involved in the Underground Railroad. You can’t get any more racist or intolerant than that!
It’s a fact that Wingham needs more Families to move here for our Community to survive and thrive. Some fear if more than one Refugee Family seek refuge here, it will instantly transform into a terrorist cell. This is very unlikely, besides what are they going to do that your apathy hasn’t already done to our Community? Josephine Street is half empty, pot holes riddle streets, flat tires and sprained ankles at the dump, shoes still dangle from the cable lines and our infrastructure is rotting with no plan to address the infrastructure reserve deficit. Some people even question if Wingham is suitable for Refugees due to the isolation and high cost of living.
The Muslim Invasion? Any organization that advocates killing infidels, gays, disobedient children and adults should be banned. If you disagree, you are not fit to be among the general population. Now……you should probably google “murder in the bible”.
Message to all “Christians”. First I offer my condolences for not reaching intellectual maturity yet. Reality isn’t that bad, and isn’t it about time you held yourself accountable for your actions instead of blaming a man in the clouds? BTW, Santa isn’t real either. Second, before you judge the religion of Refugees, remember how the bible looks if you take it literally. Those that have seen their loved ones slaughtered and had everything taken from them have an excuse to turn to religion to try and escape the horrors of their reality. What’s your excuse?
