Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7th, 2015 a motor vehicle collision involving 2 automobiles occurred near the intersection of 10th Street East at 16th Avenue East, Owen Sound.
Police arrived on scene to discover that a Dodge Sonoma had rolled over, coming to rest in a nearby ditch. The Sonoma’s 33-year old male driver was transported to hospital with a minor foot injury. Investigation and witness information revealed that the Georgian Bluffs resident had been travelling westbound on 10th Street East and disobeyed a red traffic signal, striking a Dodge Caravan, which fled the scene.
Police tracked the Caravan to a nearby residence. The female driver, a 33-year old Owen Sound resident, was determined to have fled without providing her identity because her driver’s licence was under suspension. She was subsequently charged under the Highway Traffic Act for operating a motor vehicle while her driver’s licence was under suspension, and fail to remain. There were no injuries to her or her female passenger.
The Somona’s driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with disobeying a red light – fail to stop.
The roadway was closed for a brief period only.
