Guelph Police Weekend Report

City bus/truck collision

On October 18, 2015 at 9:09 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Farquar Street and Wyndham Street for a collision between a pickup truck and a city bus. The driver of the pick-up had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Hamilton General Hospital via air ambulance. The bus driver received minor injuries. There was one passenger on the bus who was not injured. Wyndham Street was closed until shortly after 5:00 p.m., while police conducted an investigation. Damage is estimated at approximately $70-80,000 between the two vehicles. There are no further updates at this time.

Shoplifter assaults store employee

On October 16, 2015 at 10:05 a.m., the Guelph Police went to FreshCo on Speedvale Avenue for a reported assault. Investigation alleges that a male known as a regular at the store, tried to steal merchandise. When he was confronted, he struck the employee in the face and left the area. Police later located the man and he was arrested.

Raffaele Gagliardi, 76 years of Guelph has been charged with assault and theft under $5,000. He will appear in court on December 1, 2015.

Break and enter

On October 16, 2015 at 9:08 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Gordon Street business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime overnight and stole scrap metal, a catalytic converter and approximately thirty aluminum car rims.

Break and enter

On October 18, 2015 at 12:16 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Beaver Meadow Drive residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) broke a window to gain entry sometime overnight.

Stolen car – arrest

On October 16, 2015 at 10:35 p.m., the Guelph Police went to 700 Pailsey Road to investigate the report from City By-law about a located stolen vehicle. Police arrived to find the vehicle leaving the Paisley Road parking lot and a traffic stop was conducted and the female driver was arrested. Subsequent to her arrest a search discovered a small quantity of Crystal Meth and Marihuana.

Lyndsey Caron, 27 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and breach of recognizance. She will appear in court on October 19, 2015.

Stolen cars reported

Over the weekend the Guelph Police took four stolen vehicle reports. The locations were Victoria Road South, Woodland Glen Drive and two came from Stone Road East. These vehicles are still outstanding.

Single car collision

On October 15, 2015 at 3:55 a.m., the Guelph Police located a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Kortright Road West and Edinburgh Road South. The vehicle had struck a light standard and the occupant(s) were not at the scene. The motor vehicle sustained serious damage.

Three car collision

On October 16, 2015 at 12:15 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Woolwich Street for a three car collision. It is alleged that a black four door Dodge travelling north on Woolwich street near London Road had struck a blue four door Hyundai travelling in the same direction. The force of the collision propelled the Hyundai into a gray two door Volvo.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 33-year-old Guelph female, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.

Damage to the vehicles is estimated at $15,000.

The driver of the Dodge, a 23-year-old Guelph female, was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Theft/Fraud arrest

On October 18, 2015 the Guelph Police were called regarding a theft of wallet from vehicle complaint in the south end of Guelph. Investigation revealed that the victim’s credit card had been used at several locations in the south end of Guelph shortly after the theft occurred. A suspect description was provided of the male responsible for using the stolen credit card. Shortly thereafter, a male matching the description was located and arrested. Subsequent to his arrest a search discovered a small quantity of Crystal Meth. Further investigation revealed that the male was also a suspect in several other similar frauds in the city throughout the summer/fall.

Jeffrey Currie, 39 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, eight counts of fraud under $5,000, attempt fraud, three counts of possession of stolen property, eight counts of use stolen credit card, attempt to use stolen credit card and two counts of breach of recognizance.

Drug arrest downtown

On October 18, 2015 at 12:45 a.m., the Guelph Police went to an establishment on MacDonell Street for a disturbance. An intoxicated male was causing issues inside and he was arrested for public intoxication. Subsequent to his arrest a search discovered a small quantity of Cocaine.

Brodie MacNeil, 22 years of Mississauga has been charged with possession of a controlled substance under the C.D.S.A. He will appear in court on November 20, 2015.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received four reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Gordon Street, Brazolot Street, Southampton Street and Marksam Road.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
