At approximately 10:50 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4th a tiered response was dispatched to Owen Sound’s Emergency Services regarding a shed on fire in the 1000 block of 2nd Avenue West. Before long the fire spread to the rear of the single family dwelling. The 2 occupants of the home were able to make it out safely after observing the flaming structure through their dining room window; while a resident from across the street alerted neighbours.
While fire fighters battled the blaze Owen Sound Police Service officers evacuated nearby homes on 1st Avenue A West and 2nd Avenue West. The only injury was to an onlooker who had tripped and fallen.
The 1000 block of 2nd Avenue West, and the intersection of 10th Street West at 2nd Avenue West were closed to traffic for a few hours. With the exception of the occupants of the house fire, all persons have been permitted to return to their homes.
Questions regarding the cause of the fire and damage amounts can be directed to Fire Prevention Officer Greg Nicol of Owen Sound Fire & Emergency Services.
