18 Year Old Caught Going 134 in an 80

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Thursday November 12, 2015, around 7:30 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was using police radar to determine the speed of moving vehicles along Perth Road 113 (Embro Road) south of Stratford. The officer observed a Suzuki SXR travelling north bound at a high rate of speed. The speed of the Suzuki was locked in on radar at 134 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

The motor vehicle was pulled over and the male driver, 18-year-old Dean MCLACHLEN of South West Oxford Township was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. He is to appear at Stratford Court on December 08, 2015, to answer to this charge. His vehicle was towed from the scene and his driver’s licence was suspended for a week.

As tempting it may be to increase speeds on dry roads, motorists are urged to abide by the posted speed limits and slow down and be extra attentive from sunset to midnight and during the hours shortly before and after sunrise. These are the highest risk times for deer-vehicle collisions.
