Screening The Refugees Is Pointless, Just Let Them In Already!

Which would you prefer? Living in a community with 25,000 Syrian Refugees or 25,000 police officers?

Canada will be releasing details on the plan to bring 25,000 refugees to Canada on Tuesday. Sadly, racist comments flourish online and hate crimes have already happened in Canada. The reality is new immigrants have a much lower crime rate than the general population. The fact is you would be safer in a community full of new immigrants as compared to living among Canadians that have lived here for generations. New immigrants feel thankful to be here and fear deportation if they break the law.

The screening process is going to be the number one issue that will be raised by anti-immigrant radicals. They don’t want the Refugees here, and will try to foster paranoia and fear regarding the screening process in an attempt to keep them away.

How do you think this screening is going to work for the Syrian Refugees? Remember they are coming from a war ravaged land where their government wanted to kill them. So, are we going to ask Assad or a branch of his “government” for a reference for each of the 25,000? There is not much Canada can do to screen them, other than make sure they aren’t on a terrorist watch list and try to determine if they have a criminal record.

There will only be about 20% adult males in the Refugee Community, the rest will be women, children and infants. Even with little or no screening, there is very little risk posed from these immigrants, much lower than the general population.

On the other hand, the police are supposed to be highly screened and pillars of our Communities. They have beaten a man to death, viciously beaten a man in a parking lot and were caught drug trafficking, that’s in the last few days in Ontario alone! Don’t forget last month when an officer repeatedly ran over someone’s dog. Police are armed and dangerous. When a police officer breaks the law they get suspended with pay, or a paid holiday as many call it.
