Location: West Street (300 block)
Incident: On December 9, 2015 at approximately 12:40 a.m. a citizen telephoned the BPS to report that a male had thrown a rock at a store front window on West Street. The window was damaged. Investigation continues.
Type: Theft from Motor Vehicle
Location: Childerhose Crescent
Incident: Sometime overnight on December 8, 2015 an unlocked vehicle was entered on Childerhose Crescent. Reported stolen from the vehicle were safety glasses, GPS, stereo remote and loose change.
The BPS remind citizens to report all crimes and suspicious activities which take place on your property. All thefts from your motor vehicles should be reported to the BPS regardless if items are stolen.
Citizens are encouraged to take a second to look inside their vehicles for items (wallets,
electronics, change, GPS, garage door openers, ect) that may make them an attractive target for thieves. Remove the items and then lock the vehicle before you leave the vehicle unattended. (Look, Lock, Leave)
Type: Fraud Alert Continues – Canadian Revenue Scam
Incident: On December 8, 2015 a Brantford woman received a telephone call from an unknown person identifying themselves as an investigator with the Canadian Revenue Agency. The woman was asked to provide her social insurance number.
The Brantford Police Service is encouraging people to resist being pressured into giving anyone money or personal information without first verifying the person’s name and authenticity of their story. Consider calling a neighbour, a family member, or friend to assist you before handing out any money or disclosing information.
CRA Scam – How to protect yourself
DONOT take immediate action.
Verify that what you are being told is the truth.
Ask yourself why the CRA would be asking for personal information over the phone or e-mail that they likely already have on file.
Contact the CRA or your accountant to confirm that you in fact owe back taxes, or are entitled to a refund, before providing any personal or banking information.
The CRA is aware of these scams and wish to remind Canadians that they will only send payments by direct deposit or by cheque NEVER by interac e-transfer
