Guelph Police Weekend Report

R.I.D.E.

On December 31 / January 1, 2016 between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., the Guelph Police Service conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph. 625 vehicles were checked by officers. One arrest was made when the driver was determined to be impaired. A search subsequent to his arrest discovered a small quantity of MDMA (ecstasy). Four roadside screening tests were also administered and all four drivers were found to be within the legal limit.

Piotr Spolitakiewicz, 36 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving, drive over 80 mg and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on January 15, 2016.

Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that even though the holiday season has come to an end we will continue to conduct random spot checks for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension. Convictions for Impaired Driving and Driving with Over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12 month driving prohibition.

Collision leads to impaired driving charge

On January 1, 2016 at 2:46 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Flemming Drive for a collision. It is alleged that a Nissan being driven on Flemming struck two cars parked on the road. One of these vehicles then struck a man that had been shoveling his driveway. Police determined that the driver of the Nissan had been drinking alcohol and he was arrested. No injuries were reported.

Mark Willms, 29 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on January 22, 2016.

Male arrested at house party

On January 1, 2016 at 2:55 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Cedarvale Avenue for a disturbance at a residence. It is alleged that a male had been asked to leave the residence. The altercation became physical when the male began punching a resident of the home. He then struck the same male resident in the head with a beer bottle. Police arrested the male at the scene. The male victim was taken to Guelph Hospital for medical treatment.

Riley Booth, 24 years of Guelph, has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on January 4, 2016.

Two arrests made on Morris Street

On January 1, 2016 the Guelph Police went to Morris Street to investigate a break in and assault. It is alleged that at 1:30 a.m., a male invited some unknown males back to his residence for New Year’s drinks. Once at the Morris Street residence the unknown males became hostile and struck the male victim. The victim left the residence but was returning with a friend when they observed the two males leaving the residence carrying a small cigar box.

Police were called, located the responsible males and they were arrested.

David Cope, 20 years of Oakville has been charged with break and enter and assault. He will appear in court on February 9, 2016.

Man with knife downtown arrested

On January 1, 2016 the Guelph Police went to Carden Street for the report of a male with a knife. It is alleged that two males, unknown to each other, became involved in a physical altercation when one of the males pulled out a knife and made a threatening comment. He then left the area and police were called. Police were directed to where the male was and he was arrested and the knife was seized. The male identified to police but the name was later discovered to be false.

Brenan Ledrew, 29 years of Guelph has been charged with utter threats, weapons dangerous and obstruct police. He will appear in court on January 12, 2016.

Single vehicle collision – arrest

On January 3, 2016 at 4:42 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a single motor vehicle collision on Imperial Road just south of Paisley Road. It is alleged that the Toyota Matrix left the roadway and struck a Hydro pole. The male driver was determined to be impaired and he was arrested. A search subsequent to his arrest discovered a small quantity of Heroin. The male then refused to be tested by a Drug Recognition Officer.

Paul Bedggood, 51 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving, possession of a controlled substance and refuse to comply with DRE demand. He will appear in court on January 19, 2016.

Man arrested after driving investigation

On January 3, 2016 at 10:09 a.m., the Guelph Police entered an investigation around the driver of a vehicle on Alice Street. Investigation of the driver discovered that he had four driving suspensions and was breaching court imposed conditions. The male was arrested.

A 26-year-old Elmira man has been charged with breach of recognizance, breach of probation and drive disqualified. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with three counts of drive while under suspension. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on January 4, 2016.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received two reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Hadati Road and Cedarvale Drive.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
