Fatal Fire in Chatham Township CK16000472

Last night around 9:40 p.m. emergency crews responded to a residence fully engulfed by fire on Pond Road. A 94-year-old woman was located in the home. She was transported to Sydenham District Hospital where life saving measures were unsuccessful.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall has been notified and will be assisting with the investigation.

Man Charged with Mischief CK16000384

On January 5, 2016 around 9:25 p.m. the man attended his ex-girlfriend’s home in Chatham and damaged her vehicle. The man kicked in the rear door and threw a cinder block through the windshield causing approximately $1500 damage. The man fled the area prior to police arrival.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m. this morning, the man attended police headquarters and turned himself in. The 29-year-old Chatham man has been charged with two counts of mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Assault CK16000485

Around 2:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to a residence in Chatham in regards to an unwanted person. Through investigation, officers learned that the man had assaulted and threatened his girlfriend.

The 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault and uttering threats. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Using Ex-Girlfriend’s Credit Card CK16000457

Last night around 5:00 p.m. the woman received $50 in her bank account to purchase formula for her child. By 5:15 p.m. the man had accessed his ex-girlfriend’s bank account through his PlayStation network to purchase software. The $48 transaction was conducted without the woman’s consent.

The 28-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a credit card. He was released with conditions pending a future court date of January 26, 2016.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone to keep their credit card information, passwords and PIN numbers confidential. Sharing any of this information with another person places your finances and privacy at risk. If someone knows your PIN, change it right away.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK16000420

Yesterday morning around 11:30 a.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Charing Cross Road near Cundle Line.

Minor injuries were sustained. Total damage was estimated at $4000.

A 59-year-old Merlin man was charged with careless driving.
