Drunk Driver Calls Police On Himself After Mistaking Rail Trail For Road

A 55 year-old Scarborough man was arrested early Sunday morning after he called 911 to report that he was impaired and stuck on the east side rail trail.

The man called police around 6:40 AM as he was stuck and lost in extremely cold weather. Police arrived to find the vehicle stuck approximately 100 metres off the roadway along the rail trail near Superior Street. The driver was unfamiliar with the area and believed he had been travelling on a rural road when he slid off the trail and became stuck.

The driver was found to have been drinking and he was subsequently arrested and brought to the Owen Sound Police station for breath tests, which he failed.

The man has been released from custody on a promise to appear. He will appear in court February 25th to face charges of impaired care and control and care and control of a vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol per one hundred millilitres of blood.
