(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – West Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Chief Superintendent John Cain is pleased to announce the new Detachment Commander of the Perth County OPP – Inspector Rob Scott.
“I am very confident that the citizens of Perth County and the members of the Perth County OPP Detachment will be well served by their new Detachment Commander who brings with him an extensive and varied background in policing” – Chief Superintendent John Cain.
Inspector Rob Scott was selected as the successful candidate to replace retired Inspector Steve Porter. He has commenced his duties as of Tuesday, February 16, 2016.
Inspector Scott has been an officer with the OPP for 26 years. He commenced his policing career at the Norfolk Detachment where he held numerous uniform positions as well as being a member of the street crimes unit and the local criminal investigations unit. Between 2002 and 2005 he was assigned to the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, where he gained experience in high level drug investigations. In 2005 he was promoted to uniform Sergeant. During his tenure as Sergeant he has worked out of the Brant and Oxford Detachments, gaining experience in frontline supervision and detachment operations. In 2012 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant at the Norfolk Detachment where he was Operations Manager overseeing approximately 100 frontline officers. He championed a Focused Patrol Strategy at the Norfolk Detachment incorporating analytics into local policing. This analytic approach has been incorporated into the OPP Commissioner’s 2014-2016 Action Plan. He has provided oversite and leadership at numerous major events, working with Emergency Management Groups, Municipal Officials, Municipal Chiefs of Police and Police Services Boards. He spent time as Interim Detective Staff Sergeant in OPP West Region, overseeing criminal operations at four detachments as well as supervising the Regional Intelligence Unit. His last assignment was as Acting Inspector of Staffing and Development at OPP West Region Headquarters.
