On March 1st at approximately 7:00 p.m., a grandmother and 4 year old grandson were tobogganing at Victoria park during the snow storm. Their path was leading to the lake and went over the edge into the water on their toboggan. The grandmother had to tread water while struggling to lift the grandson out of the frigid water onto the rocky ledge. She wasn’t able to get out of the water and kept yelling for help. Members of the community heard the calls and began contacting Police who attended to the area. A 59 year old good Samaritan, walking through the Victoria Park during the incident and also heard the cries for help. He was quick to locate the pair and helped the lady out of the water before walking them to a warm place of safety. The victims were transported to hospital for assessment and later discharged. The quick actions of the good Samaritan likely saved the lives of the family.
