Hockey Parent Charged For Assaulting Coach

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Sunday evening March 06, 2016, an off-duty Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer arrested a parent after assaulting a hockey coach at the Listowel Memorial Arena.

During a Bantam Rep minor hockey game between Listowel and West Grey, one of the West Grey parents became upset about some of the action on the ice. Upon completion of the game the parent who had been yelling, and banging on the glass of the rink during the game, took his anger into the arena hallways. As the Listowel coaches were walking towards the change rooms, the parent kicked one of the hallway doors, causing it to swing open and strike a coach with such force that the coach was knocked to the ground. The coach sustained injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

The parent, 46-year-old Tracey ALJOE from Durham has been charged with “assault” contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was released on a “Promise to Appear” and will be attending at the Listowel Court of Justice on Wednesday April 27, 2016 to answer to the charge.
