Drunk Driver Arrested In Listowel After Near Miss With Transport Truck

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Friday March 04, 2016, shortly before 8 p.m. an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Traffic officer on patrol in Listowel, observed a near miss collision involving an SUV and tractor trailer at the intersection of Main St. and Wallace Ave North.

The GMC Terrain (SUV) was east bound on Main St. West when it made a left turn directly in front of the west bound tractor trailer which was attempting to make a right turn on to Wallace Ave North. The actions of the SUV driver forced the driver of the tractor trailer to brake so hard that the truck rocked violently. The truck driver’s actions avoided a collision with the SUV.

The SUV was immediately pulled over by police and the female driver was spoken to. The driver displayed signs of impairment and was arrested. She was transported to the North Perth OPP Detachment in Listowel where she failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.

42-year-old Karen Patricia MILLER of Chesley has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences; “driving while ability impaired by alcohol”, and “driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood”.

Her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the GMC Terrain SUV she was operating has been impounded for a period of seven days as per statue.

The Perth County OPP is requesting anyone who observes a suspected impaired driver to contact them immediately at 1-888-310-1122.
