Citizens on Patrol – Volunteer Opportunity

The Brantford Police Service invites members of the community to attend a drop in-public information session about Citizens on Patrol, a crime prevention initiative.

The information session will be held on Saturday April 2, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Brantford Police Station in the Community Room.

Citizens on Patrol (COP) provide a visible presence in the community while fostering partnerships with Brantford Police Services, local businesses and neighbourhoods, to identify and expand opportunities to deter criminal activity and reduce crime.

COP volunteers will be goodwill ambassadors and foster positive contact with members of the community. COP’s will act as non-confrontational observers and report suspicious behaviour. Their mission is to be non-intrusive, trained civilian eyes and ears of the Brantford Police Service, contributing to the overall safety and wellness of the City of Brantford. Activities include vehicle patrols, foot patrols, public events, and static stations

This program does not promote, require or ask for any involvement of members in the apprehension of criminals. The purpose is solely to observe and report any incidents to the police for follow up and/or investigation.

Successful applicants will be required to fulfill a minimum of 3 hours a month of foot, vehicle patrol time or static duties at the police station to maintain active status with the program.

Uniform and training will be supplied.

Applicants must:

1. Be at least 18 years of age

2. Not be charged or convicted of any criminal offence for which a pardon has not been received

3. Successfully complete the application process including electronic background check and possible personal interviews
