Guelph Police Daily News Release – 21Mar2016

Break and enter

On March 19, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Farquar Street building to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) pried open the door to the laundry/maintenance room to gain entry sometime overnight.

Break and enter

On March 20, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Clive Avenue residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage sometime overnight and stole tools.

Property damage to Post Office

On March 19, 2016 at 9:27 p.m., the Guelph Police went to the Post Office on Wyndham Street North for the report of property damage. The culprit(s) smashed the glass to the front door causing approximately $500 damage.

Laundry machines damaged

On March 19, 2016 the Guelph Police went to two apartments on Waterloo Avenue for the report that laundry machines were damaged in both buildings. It was uncertain if a theft occurred although the coin boxes in one of the buildings had been tampered with.

Drugs – arrest

On March 21, 2016 at 12:30 a.m., the Guelph Police observed a male scratching lottery tickets with a large hunting knife on Carden Street. While speaking with the male, police saw a clear bag in his open back pack that had white residue, believed to be a controlled substance and he was arrested. A search subsequent to his arrest discovered a small quantity of Methamphetamine. Further investigation determined he was breaching court imposed conditions.

A 24-year-old Guelph male has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and three counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on March 21, 2016.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received four reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Woodlawn Road West, Ontario Street, Bathgate Drive and Freshmeadow Way.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Road safety enforcement on March 19

In the area of Stone Road/Monticello Crescent from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. 16 tickets issued.

In the area of Victoria Road/Hadati Road from 10:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. 9 tickets issued.

Police incidents from March 19 to March 21 at 8:00 a.m.

The Guelph Police were involved in 398 incidents in this time frame. Incidents involve everything from traffic stops and accidental 911 calls to domestics and break and enters.
