A Guelph Police Intelligence Unit investigation led to a search warrant, six arrests and the seizure of multiple weapons, a small quantity of drugs and stolen property. On March 31, 2016 at 6:56 a.m., the Guelph Police Intelligence Unit with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police Tactical Rescue Unit executed a search warrant at a home on County Road #32 in Guelph Township. Included in the weapons seizure was a 9mm handgun with loaded magazine, a 22 calibre rifle, two air soft guns, a large hunting knife and a spring loaded knife.
A 47-year-old Guelph man has been charged with nine counts of possess firearm or weapon contrary to prohibition order, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break in instruments, fail to re-attend court, six counts of breach of recognizance, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, careless use of firearm/weapon/firearm, store firearm or restricted weapon, four counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition.
A 31-year-old Guelph man has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of firearm/weapon/firearm, store firearm or restricted weapon and possession of break in instruments. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with drive while under suspension.
A 22-year-old Guelph man has been charged with fail to re-attend court, unauthorized possession of a weapon, careless use of firearm/weapon/firearm, store firearm or restricted weapon, obstruct police officer, possession of a controlled substance and three counts of breach of recognizance.
A 25-year-old Bracebridge female has been charged with possession of break in instruments, possession of property obtained by crime and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
An 18-year-old Guelph female has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of firearm/weapon/firearm, store firearm or restricted weapon, possession of a weapon obtained by crime and breach of recognizance.
A 39-year-old Guelph male has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of break in instruments, possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of breach of probation and fail to comply with OIC condition.
All accused have been held in custody pending a bail hearing on April 1, 2016. They are not named in this release because they are still in Guelph Police custody.
Assault – arrest
On April 1, 2016 at 1:35 a.m., the Guelph Police went to an establishment on Carden Street for the report of an assault. A male alleged that he had been assaulted by an unknown male while inside the bar. Police were able to locate the man responsible and he was arrested. The victim complained of losing some teeth as a result of the assault.
Robert Brown, 24 years of Guelph has been charged with assault cause bodily harm. He will appear in court on May 10, 2016.
School bus enforcement
On March 31, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Guelph Police conducted School Bus enforcement. Police issued two tickets for motorist failing to stop for a School Bus while the overhead signals were flashing and the stop sign actuated. Police would like to remind drivers that when a School Bus is stopped with its overhead signals flashing and the stop sign actuated all drivers must stop before reaching the bus and not proceed until the bus moves or the overhead signals stop flashing. Failure to stop could result in a fine of $490 and 6 demerit points. Please STOP for the kid’s sake.
