Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 16May2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 93 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK16013574

On January 14, 2016 the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Last night, at 9:15 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed the man riding a bicycle in the area of Murray Street and Prince Street in Chatham. The officer stopped the man for an unrelated offence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and learned that he was breaching his release conditions.

The 42-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with failing to comply. He was released pending a future court date of June 7, 2016.

Man Charged with Being Intoxicated in a Public Place CK16013566

Last night around 7:45 p.m. police received information that a man was walking and swinging a small stick towards people as they passed him. Officers located the man in the area of Earl Street and Merritt Avenue in Chatham. The intoxicated man was unable to care for himself and for his own safety was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters.

The 65-year-old Chatham man was charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He was released when sober.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Tilbury CK16013518

Yesterday morning, shortly after 11:30 a.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Queen Line between Mill Street East and Wheeler Line.

No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $11,000.

A 62-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to yield the right of way.

‘Drive Safe’ Campaign

Last week, in support of the ‘Drive Safe’ Campaign, the Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Unit conducted enforcement throughout the Municipality.

As a result,

– 18 various Highway Traffic Act offences were issued

– 6 motorists were charged with driving with no license

– 4 motorists were charged with driving while suspended

– 2 motorists were charged with driving with no insurance

– 1 motorist was charged with driving while disqualified

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone that even though this Campaign is over, officers will continue to look for infractions that place everyone’s safety on our local roads at risk.
