(GODERICH, ON) – A Goderich resident remains in custody on a number of charges following his court appearance that took place earlier this afternoon. Shortly after 8:00 a.m. this morning police were called to the Victoria Park splash pad washrooms after a concerned resident spotted a male acting suspiciously in the area.
Police arrived on scene and were able to make verbal contact with the male that was still hiding out in the washroom. The male refused to identify himself and refused to exit the washroom. Officers had concerns for the male’s well-being so they entered into the public washroom and found the male in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Upon searching the male officers found the male to also be in possession of a prohibited weapon (flick knife) and break-in tools. In addition, he was in possession of identification and credit cards that had been stolen from a vehicle parked on South Street.
Upon confirming the male’s identity police also learned the male was currently serving a probation sentence in the community.
As a result, Brandon WEITZEL, 25 years of age from Goderich has been charged with the following offences:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
Possession of Break-in Instruments
Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order (2 counts)
Fail to Comply with Probation Order (2 counts)
He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 30, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
