(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Victoria Day Monday May 23, 2016, as part of “Canada Road Safety Week”, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers conducted a Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) program along Perth Line 20 in St.Pauls.
Around 10:30 a.m. officers stopped a GMC SUV and spoke with the male driver. The odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected on the driver’s breath. He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. He was subsequently transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville where he provided two breath samples to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician, both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 54-year-old Bouavone OUNSAMONE of Stratford has been charged with “Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on Monday June 27, 2016, where he will answer to the charge. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
Driving sober and drug-free is the only way to end the numerous impaired driving related deaths that occur on Ontario roads every year. If you or someone you know, plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan not to drive. Instead arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight, or take public transit.
