(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer had to do a double take when he witnessed a Dodge Dakota travelling through Exeter earlier this month. On May 19, 2016 at approximately 10:15 p.m. the investigating officer spotted a Dodge Dakota following so closely to the vehicle in front of it the officer actually thought the Dakota was being towed by the lead vehicle.
The officer followed the pickup truck through Exeter and completed a traffic stop south of Exeter on London Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer noted the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver completed a roadside screening test and the driver registered a Fail. He was placed under arrest for Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. A search of the vehicle was completed and officers located an open bottle of liquor inside the vehicle.
The driver was subsequently transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests where he provided two samples of his breath to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 40-year-old Billy DESABRAIS from Lucan has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams, Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking, Drive Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor, Drive While Under Suspension and Follow Too Closely. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on June 30, 2016.
His licence was also suspended for an automatic 90 days and his truck was impounded for a week.
