(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Wednesday May 25, 2016, shortly after 5 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to single motor vehicle collision along Perth Line 88 east of Kurtzville.
Shortly after 5 p.m., a motorist was following a KIA Sportage West bound on Perth Line 88 east of Road 171. The KIA was observed colliding with a mailbox on the North side of the road after which it crossed both lanes of Perth Line 88 and drove down a steep embankment on the south side of the road. The lone occupant (driver) of the KIA was found to be uninjured but displayed signs of impairment.
Upon police arrival the male driver was arrested and transported to the North Perth OPP Detachment, where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.
71-year-old William HALPENNY of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:
Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol)
Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood
He was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday June 22, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
