(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Friday June 10, 2016, shortly before 5 p.m., a concerned motorist contacted the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and reported observing a car running a stop sign. An earlier complaint about the same vehicle had also been received. The motorist advised police where the car, a Mazda 3 was last observed turning into a driveway.
Officers proceeded to Argyle Ave North in the area where the Mazda 3 was last seen. As officers arrived, they observed a Mazda 3 backing out of a driveway. The Mazda proceeded north on Argyle Ave North. Officers pulled in front and behind the car initiating a traffic stop.
The male driver was spoken to and an open alcoholic beverage was located in the vehicle. The driver was administered a roadside breath test which he failed. He was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville where he also failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests. It was also determined that the male was suspended and disqualified from driving.
58-year-old Leonard Cecil WILLIAMS of Clifford has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:
Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood
Driving while disqualified – court order
Fail to comply with probation order
In addition he has been charged with two counts of “driving while under suspension” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, and he faces a charge of, “driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available” contrary to the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario.
He as a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on July 13, 2016, where he will answer to the charges. His vehicle was impounded for 45 days due to the fact that he was operating the motor vehicle while being disqualified from driving.
