(ADELAIDE METCALFE, ON) – On June 22, 2016, at approximately 1:16 p.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Adelaide Metcalfe Fire Department, and the Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a single motor vehicle crash.
A GMC pickup truck was travelling southbound on Thames Road. Near the intersection of Inadale Road, it left the highway and entered the east ditch, where it struck a plastic culvert, and went airborne into a farm field of corn.
The vehicle had been reported as stolen from the Huron County OPP jurisdiction, and there was a quantity of controlled substances in the vehicle.
One of the occupants, a 30-year-old male, was transported by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries to hospital, and subsequently discharged. He was arrested on June 22, 2016, and held in police custody.
A second occupant, a 38-year-old female, from London, Ontario, was transported by ambulance with serious but non-life threatening injuries to hospital, and has been discharged. She was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear (PTA), on June 23, 2016.
As a result of the police investigation, Michael VAIL, and Connie DURWARD, both from London, Ontario, have been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. They were further charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) with possession of a schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana – under 30 grams, and possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine.
The accused persons are scheduled to answer the charges before the London courts.
This incident remains under investigation.
