Location: LADYSLIPPER DR, WATERLOO, ON Canada

On Monday July 11, 2016 at 4:10 p.m. Waterloo Regional Police received a call from an unknown female that two men armed with shotguns were attempting to gain access to the residence located on Ladyslipper Drive in the City of Waterloo. The female identified herself as the owner of the residence. A heavy police presence attended the residence and the two armed men were not located. The owner of the home, was home with his wife and son when Police gained access to the residence.

None of the occupants of the residence had called for Police assistance and did not notice any men with firearms near their house. The owner of the home disclosed to Police that earlier in the day he received a call from three unknown men who claimed to be from Immigration Canada. The men obtained the home owners name and address and asked that he pay $2,500 by purchasing a voucher.

If the owner bought the voucher, he would avoid being arrested by the Police. The owner did not give the men any other information and hung up immediately. It is believed that the men attempting to fraud the owner used the information given to them by the owner to have Police attend the residence in an effort to scare him into paying them the money. No banking information was given during the conversation with the suspects. Police are reminding the public that they and Immigration Canada do not ask for money or banking information over the phone. Police are also asking for the public to report instances that are similar in nature to this incident.
