(HOWICK, ON) – A young driver from North Huron is facing a drug possession charge following a traffic stop that took place last night. At 8:22 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer responded to a call on Amberley Road regarding a motor vehicle that was travelling eastbound in an erratic manner.
At 8:41 p.m. the responding officer located the suspect vehicle, a blue Nissan sedan parked on the south shoulder of Amberley Road. The driver was observed to be holding a common piece of drug paraphernalia (bong) in his lap. Upon speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver to be displaying signs that he may have been also been impaired by marihuana. He was placed under arrest for the Possession of Marihuana and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for further examination by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). Additional investigation is expected to take place prior to determining whether the driver was impaired by drug.
At this time, 21-year-old Raffaele IPPOLITO, from North Huron has been charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Marihuana. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for September 12, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
