Directed patrol leads to vehicle stop of drunk driver

At 12:30 am on Friday August 5, while doing directed patrol, an Owen Sound Police Service Sergeant watched a man drive his vehicle along the 200 block of 8th Street East.

Information obtained from the Ministry of Transportation revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle was prohibited from driving in Ontario.

The sergeant pulled-over the driver and was quickly told by the 41 year old Owen Sound man that he did not have his driver’s licence with him. During this conversation, the odour of alcohol emanated from the breath of the driver, so a demand was made that he blow into a roadside screening device. The driver failed the roadside breath test and he was arrested.

The accused was brought to the station and failed a subsequent breath test. The man is charged with the offences of:

1) Operate a motor vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood

2) Drive motor vehicle – No licence

He will appear in provincial court on August 18, 2016.
