(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – On Monday September 12, 2016, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to Hwy 7/8 between Stratford and Shakespeare in response to a motor vehicle versus bicycle collision.
Investigation revealed that a male bicyclist was riding west bound in the west bound lane of Hwy 7/8, approximately 120 metres east of Road 109. A vehicle described as a dark coloured older model pickup truck or Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) was travelling west bound in the west bound lane of Hwy 7/8 when the passenger side of the vehicle struck the bicyclist.
The impact resulted in the bicyclist to become airborne and end up in the north ditch. The bicyclist sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The motor vehicle failed to stop or remain at the scene, it continued west bound on Hwy 7/8. The passenger side mirror of the vehicle was recovered by police at the scene and appears to have come off an older model GMC Sonoma, GMC Jimmy, GMC Envoy or a Chevy Blazer.
The involved motorist is requested to immediately contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who has information about this dark coloured vehicle without a passenger side mirror is requested to contact the Perth County OPP.
