(BLUEWATER, ON) – A 28-year-old motorcycle driver had to find an alternate means of transportation after the driver failed a roadside screening test yesterday afternoon. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers had set up a “safety lane” in Bayfield in an effort to check for potential equipment and documentation violations specific to motorcycle operators passing through the area.
At approximately 12:15 p.m. a northbound Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle entered into the safety lane located at the intersection of Bayfield Main Street North and The Square. Upon speaking with the driver and checking over the motorcycle officers identified a number of violations. The validation sticker on the licence place was expired, the driver was unable to surrender a valid permit for the motorcycle and the vehicle was found to be uninsured.
Additionally, the investigating officer noted the driver had been consuming alcohol. A roadside screening test was performed which resulted in a fail for the driver. He was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was promptly transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 28-year-old Taylor FORRESTER from Grand Bend has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Permit, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Validation on Plate and Fail to Surrender Insurance Card.
He was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 7, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
