Driver Caught Going About 2X The Speed Limit

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Sunday August 09, 2015, shortly before 7 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting patrols on Hwy 23 north of Monkton.

The officer observed an extremely fast moving black sedan driving north bound on Hwy 23. The use of the police radar determined that the speed of the vehicle was nearly twice the posted speed limit of 80 km/h.

The male driver of the black Nissan Altima, 28-year-old Cameron RIDGWAY of Waterloo was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. He is to appear at Stratford Court on August 25, 2015, to answer to this charge. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days. In addition, his vehicle was towed from the scene and has been impounded for a week.

The Perth County OPP wants to remind motorists that there will continue to be a heavy police presence on Perth County roads this summer. Officers will be concentrating patrols on heavily travelled east-west roads, intersections where there have historically been high numbers of collisions and in locations from which traffic complaints have been received.
