Brantford Crime Briefs – October 13, 2015

Type: Arrest- Break and Enter

Locations: Market Street South

Incident: On October 11, 2015 at 21:53 hours, Brantford Police received an alarm call for service at 60 Market Street South at Sagittarius Nightclub. Upon police arrival a broken glass window was observed, with fresh blood on the inside. Blood was observed on the concrete walkway, leading around the rear of the building. Police located two males, approximately 20 metres south from the building, in a wooded area. Both males were intoxicated and bleeding from minor lacerations. Both males were arrested for break and enter and it was learned that they had stolen food from the coolers in the kitchen of the nightclub. A 25 yr old and 22 yr old (both from Brantford) are facing break and enter charges.

Type: Robbery with a gun

Locations: Erie Ave

Incident: On October 9, 2015 at 4:50am an unknown male described as a white male, approximately 25 to 30 years old, wearing grey track pants , white running shoes, a grey sweater with a black scarf covering his nose and a balaclava covering his head entered the convenience store with a rifle and robbed the store of cash. The clerk working was not harmed during the robbery. The male fled on foot from the store and was not located by responding police.

Type: Arrest- Child Abandonment

Locations: Brantford

Incident: On Friday, October 9th, 2015 at 5:25 pm, Brantford Police received a call for service regarding a missing 2 year old boy. The male person calling was the primary care provider at the time and searched around the residence, unable to find his son, before calling for police assistance. Police attended to the area to conduct a search for the missing boy and a short time later, located the boy within the residence. The boy had fallen asleep behind the couch in the living room, hiding behind the window curtain.

Police observed the accused to be influenced by alcohol while under legal duty to take care of the child. Information was received that the accused had approached a neighbour’s residence requesting a ride to The Beer Store, to purchase a case of beer to continue drinking. The accused knowingly left the child alone in the residence, abandoning and endangering the child’s life to the countless risks within a home. Police feared that a child of this age has the inability to care for themselves and is dependent on an adult to avoid exposure to dangers within a home that likely may cause permanent injury or death. The accused abandoned the child for approximately thirty minutes and was unable to locate the child in the residence with his return from The Beer Store.

Police arrested the accused for Abandoning a Child. Brant Family and Child Services were contacted and found a safe environment for the child.

The accused is being held for a bail hearing.

Type: Arrest- Assault, Drugs and possession of stolen property.

Locations: BPS Station

Incident: A 27 yr old Brantford man who attended to the Police Station had a run of bad luck. The male who was wanted by police attended to the station to speak to an officer. Upon police speaking with the male, they became aware that he was wanted for an incident that occurred on October 3rd 2015 at approximately 3:00am. On October 3rd, 2015 two females walked up asking to use the man’s phone, as they were looking for a taxi to get a ride home. Once the females entered the residence, the male refused to allow them to leave. The females eventually left and contacted police. Police were unable to track the man down until he attended to the station on October 10th in regard to a different incident. The male was arrested for forcible confinement and threatening from the October 3rd incident. Once arrested, police found identification of another person that was reported stolen in August 2015. Further, the male had cocaine and crystal methamphetamine in his pockets. A 27 yr old Brantford man faces drug, stolen property and forcible confinement and threatening charges.

Location: Catharine Ave

Inciddent: On the 12th of October, 2015 at 04:15 am, a Catharine Street resident contacted police after reporting that she had been woken up by two loud noises and found her sliding glass door open.

Upon police arrival it was learned that an unknown person(s) had pried open a rear patio door and stole a purse with cash and identification. Police continue to investigate.

Type: MVC – Impaired

Locations: LCBO – Lynden Mall

Incident: On October 10, 2015 at approximately 4:36 p.m., the Brantford City Police attended to the LCBO at the Lynden Park mall in regard to a possible impaired driver that just hit the east side of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario building.

Brantford Police received information that the motor vehicle licence had just left 84 Lynden Road and was currently headed southbound on Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

Brantford Police located the motor vehicle southbound on Wayne Gretzky Parkway. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and registered 1.5x the legal limit. The 59 yr old Brantford man was also charged with Fail to remain at the scene of an accident. Damage to the building consisted of some broken plaster on the outer wall. No persons were reported injured.
