(PETROLIA, ON) ā On Monday November 16th, 2015 at approximately 1:17 p.m., Lambton County OPP was requested to attend the area of Euphemia Line and Cairo Road, Dawn-Euphemia Township, regarding a serious motor vehicle collision involving a stake truck and a freight train. Chatham-Kent Police Service was initially dispatched along with Canadian Pacific (CP) Police, local Fire departments and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Investigation revealed that the operator of the stack truck was attempting to cross the railway crossing on Euphemia Line and in doing so crossed directly in the path of a southbound freight train. The lone occupant of the motor vehicle was transported to hospital by EMS but succumb to the injuries sustained in the collision. The male party has been identified as 78 year-old Michil DEMAITER of Newbury, Ontario.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) attended the scene and Euphemia Line at Cairo Road was closed for several hours for investigative purposes.
