(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Kirkland Lake Detachment has lifted the shelter-in-place advisory in the area of Prospect Avenue in Kirkland Lake. Residents may now resume their regular activities as there is no threat to public safety.
The advisory was issues on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at approximately 2 p.m., following a report of an assault with a weapon. As part of the initial response, members of the public in the affected area were asked to follow shelter-in-place precautions. The situation was resolved safely, and the individual is now in custody.
As a result of the investigation John Paul Bacon, a 41-year-old of Kirkland Lake has been arrested and charged with:
· Assault
· Assault with a weapon
· Pointing a firearm
· Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
· Unauthorized possession of a firearm
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on January 7, 2026.
