Seat Swap Leads To Arrest Of Michel DESORMEAUX

(LITTLE CURRENT, ON) – A traffic stop for speeding has led to multiple charges after a driver attempted to switch seats with a passenger.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2025, at approximately 8;30 a.m., officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 6 in the Township of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands (NEMI). A vehicle was observed travelling at 119 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone, and a traffic stop was initiated.

Upon stopping, the officer observed the driver move from the driver’s seat to the rear passenger seat, while the front passenger shifted into the driver’s seat. Further investigation revealed that the original driver was suspended from driving and the driver was subsequently arrested.

The driver, Michel DESORMEAUX, 37-years-old from Sudbury, was charged with:

  • Driving while under suspension – two counts
  • Failure to comply with release order
  • Speeding 1 – 49 km/hr over posted limit

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on November 4, 2025.
