(KAPUSKASING, ON) – The James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made an impaired driving arrest during a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program in Kapuskasing.
On November 9, 2024, shortly after midnight, officers stopped a vehicle on Stewart Street in Kapuskasing as part of a RIDE initiative. Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined that the individual had consumed an intoxicating substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing OPP detachment for further testing.
During the investigation, the driver refused to complete a portion of the Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE). As a result, Sandy FERGUSON, 52 years of age of Opasatika, was charged with the following offenses:
· Operation while impaired – drugs
· Failure or refusal to comply with demand
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on December 16, 2024, in Kapuskasing. In addition, the accused received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
